Today, we’re going to talk about lessons we can learn from Pokemon GO to help all of us move more and get more active – whether you’re trying to catch ‘em all, or not!

Why Sitting Kills?!

Many experts are calling sitting the new smoking. Harvard medical school reports that too much sitting may be linked to heart disease, diabetes, and even premature death. The fact is that our bodies are meant to transition between sitting, standing, walking and lying down throughout the day.

How Much Walking??

Health and fitness experts have long encouraged people to try and add movement into their day and try to aim for 10,000 – 15000 steps per day. But the fact is, most Amercians only average about 5000 steps a day! Tracking your steps using a pedometer or fitness tracker (Eg. GARMIN, FitBit, Microsoft Band, etc.) is a great way to add accountability into your walking. There are even free iPhone apps that count your steps!

The easiest way to ensure you are walking more is to add a timer on your phone to go off every half hour that reminds you to take a 5-minute walking break. A simple trick that makes a BIG difference in helping you walk more throughout the day!
